Selections for the upcoming Namibia and USA Series have commenced and in order for the selectors to see players perform, the format has been changed for the last two games. Instead of the normal 50 overs per side, we are now playing 70 overs per side with one day rules.
The 70 over game will give the selectors an opportunity to see players bowl longer and batters have the opportunity to bat for longer with ODI wides and no ball/free hits to apply. If the team batting first is bowled out, they have the ability to be able to bat the rest of the overs and the 70 they are allotted.
For example, Team batting first gets bowled out in 40 overs then the next team to bat can bat the 110 overs remaining. Other rules include; Power plays at 26-30 overs and 66-70 overs. Coach Mark Coles said “We are giving our batters the opportunity to bat long periods and our bowlers can bowl more overs with the Quicks being able to bowl a maximum of 15 overs and the spinners 20 overs, it’s different and we are looking forward to seeing some exciting cricket” .
FREE ENTRY for all spectators to Amini Park in Port Moresby, on Wednesday 26 th and Wednesday 02 nd of November 2022 from 10:00am.
