PNG Barramundis
The KUMUL PETROLEUM PNG Barramundis is the official name given to the Papua New Guinea (PNG) senior mens cricket team, with over 100 players having played for the Barramundis since their first match in 1975.
In 1979,Cricket PNG became an Associate Member of the ICC.
Cricket PNG achieved their second biggest milestone on the cricket world stage, where they were granted One Day International (ODI) Status in March 2014, after the Barramundis finishing fourth (4th) at the ICC 50 over World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand. This result meant that PNG climbed to an all-time high to 6th place in the world, becoming one of only 16 countries in the world to have ODI Status until 2017.
Papua New Guinea has also became the twenty-third (23rd) country to be given ODI Status since ODI’s were first played in 1971. Since achieving ODI status, PNG has moved up to 15th in the world after defeating Hong Kong 2-0 in its first ODI Series in Townsville, Australia in November 2014.
As of December 2016, the Barramundis are ranked first (1st ) in the ICC World Cricket League Championships (WCLC) and (4th) fourth in the ICC Intercontinental Cup (ICUP) after (4) four rounds.
