INJURY TO PNG BARRAMUNDIS JACK GARDNER

The Barramundi team management has confirmed that fast bowler Jack Gardner broke a finger during a practice catching session at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad over the weekend.

Team Doctor, Najeebullah Soomro, confirmed the fracture after x-rays were taken and advised that Gardner will be unable to play for the first matches of the tour.

The Barramundis are playing in the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the tournament starts on 1 June.

Team manager, Tamzin Wardley, stated that the official tournament starts with PNG competing in the first match in Guyana, against the West Indies.

“Jack will be unable to take part in the first match but we are hopeful that with careful treatment and recovery that he will be available for the later games we are to play”.

The injury is a tough blow to Gardner as he was injured and hurt his back and sidelined for the entirety of the last ICC T20 World Cup tournament hosted by India and played in Oman and the UAE in 2021.

The PNG Barramundis first game of the ICC T20 World Cup Tournament will be on 2 June 2024.

Ends.
