Match Day 2- vs Vanuatu

The PNG U19 Garamuts set the standard for the tournament with a clinical performance defeating the Vanuatu U19 team by 9 wickets in damp conditions in Samoa

PNG U19 Garamuts lost the toss and were given the task of fielding in slippery conditions as light rain came and went consistently all throughout the match. This, however, did not stop the pace bowlers from ripping through the top and middle order with Ware Robin (3/16 off 7 overs) and new opening partner Igo Morea (3/16 off 6 overs) taking advantage of the morning dew to cause havoc early.

The fielding was incredible with two run outs and all catches being taken including a screamer from young Vagi Morea at first slip. The Vanuatu boys could not recover from the early demolition by the two opening bowlers and they eventually folded to be all out for 70 runs in 25.1 overs with spinners Vagi Morea (1/11) and Wallace Toua (1/9) also assisting their pace bowlers.

Unlike the first match, the PNG U19 Garamuts displayed much more discipline in the batting department with Dauncey Tom (39 not out) and Frank Naime (16) both showing class to get the team total past 50 mark before Naime was caught trying to go for a pull shot in the 7th over.

Vagi Morea and Tom eventually passed the score in the 10th over to give PNG their 2nd win of the tournament which puts them ahead in the competition with no loss.

Dauncey Tom continued his good form with the bat taking out the Man of The Match honours after his classy 39 runs off just 24 balls.

The tournament has a rest day tomorrow before continuing on Friday and finishing on Saturday with the finals matches.
